CALL FOR FOUNDING MEMBERS Parliamentary procedure is not just for parliaments. It is for any citizen who participates in meetings or is helping to run a committee or organization. Good procedure – rules of order, if you will -- can contribute immensely to sound administration, to the advancement of a group’s objectives, and, indeed, to the common welfare. We envision a Canadian Rules of Order Network that facilitates dialogue, education, and thoughtful criticism. We wish to have a lively forum for Canadians to discuss innovative approaches. We want collective opportunities to review -- and perhaps critique -- Robert’s, Bourinot’s, Code Morin, and other popular handbooks. We hope to profile and work on Canadian approaches that reflect our traditions and our diversity. The initial mandate and projects of the Canadian Rules of Order Network will be determined in the spring of 2009. All persons who encounter rules of order as professionals or volunteers are invited to be founding members. The founding meeting will take place during the next Canadian workshop of the American Institute of Parliamentarians, scheduled for April 3-4, 2009, at the Holiday Inn, Peterborough, Ontario. To join the e-mail/mailing list for information about the start-up of the Canadian Rules of Order Network, and for an invitation to the founding meeting, please communicate with one of the members of the provisional steering committee: • Fran Goddu, Parliamentary Society of Toronto, info@croon.ca. |
